What we do...

• Negotiate market-sensitive ocean container and less than truckload transportation service contracts that help meet the transportation requirements of members of this shippers association.
• Benefit shippers association members and carriers alike through focused objectives, productive use of equipment and manpower, efficient use of available resources, awareness of local market conditions, and an increased market share for carrier-partners
• Provide an active, communicating partnership between the shippers association members who have freight to move and the contract carriers who serve them
• Operate through the market principle that volume and experience produce results when negotiating ocean container and less than truckload service contracts
• Make all transportation programs available to all shippers association members
• Allow shippers association members to use less than truckload and ocean container service contracts to the extent each member chooses and at the discretion of each member

• Designed to secure volume-based ocean container and less than truckload rates and services for shippers association members.
• Designed to provide competitive and efficient ocean container and less than truckload transportation programs to a more informed marketplace
• Available to beneficial cargo-owners where rates and services are contracted for domestic less than truckload, small package, ocean container and ocean LCL programs
• Cooperatives through which shippers association members may ship their cargo according to the terms contained in the shippers association’s less than truckload and ocean container transportation programs
• Buyers’ cooperatives where competitive information between shippers association members and the shippers association must be kept confidential

How the USA works...

• Prospective shippers association members become members once the shipper signs the shippers association’s Membership Agreement and the shippers association’s board approves the shipper
• Once a shipper joins, the shippers association’s executive director discusses with the shipper-member its transportation requirements and how the shippers association can help the shipper meet them
• All shippers association members have equal access to all negotiated USA transportation programs, including less than truckload and ocean containers
• In confidence with its shipper-members, the shippers association shares information concerning local, national and global transportation issues
• The shippers association serves the region and beyond from its base in Ohio
• There are no membership fees for shippers association members; just an administrative fee based on the number of ocean containers that move under the terms of the shippers association’s ocean container service contracts. The less than truckload carriers refund a small portion of the shipper’s net transportation charges to the shippers association

USA ocean container programs...

• Upon the shipper’s request, members are added to the shippers association’s master service contracts as affiliated shippers
• Shippers association members with good ocean container volume are asked to support the minimum quantity commitments required under terms of the ocean container service contracts
• Shippers association members continue to work with their forwarders/brokers
• Relevant ocean container service contract information is supplied to participating shippers association members
• Carriers invoice shippers association members directly for their ocean container freight charges
• The shippers association charges ocean-container-active shipper-members an administrative fee based on the number of full ocean containers shipped under terms of a USA master service contract

USA Less Than Truckload and other programs...

• Shippers association members may work with a USA less than truckload contract carrier either through the USA, directly with the carrier, or not at all
• All less than truckload rates can be based on a single rate base rating system
• Certain less than truckload contract carriers reserve the right to exclude shipper-members from participating under terms of the shippers association’s master service contract with the carrier
• Shippers association members continue to operate on a day-to-day basis directly with each less than truckload carrier
• Less than truckload carriers invoice shippers association members directly for their freight charges
• Contract LTL carriers provide an allowance to the shippers association for freight moved under terms of the shippers association’s less than truckload service contracts. The shippers association does not charge shipper-members for arranging the available LTL/LCL/parcel contracts.
